What is in Your Hand?

Exodus 4:1-4

Then Moses answered, “But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you.’ ” 2 The Lord said to him,

“What is that in your hand?” He said, “A staff.”

3 And he said, “Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent, and Moses ran from it. 4 But the Lord said to Moses, “Put out your hand and catch it by the tail”—so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand— 5 “that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”

In our prayer time we often recite a long list to God of our apparent “don’t haves”. We cry out about the areas we have lack in; reminding God of how we are still single, need a new alternator on our car, want our kids to just get along, desire to get paid more at our jobs...and the list goes on...and on....and on....this is ok! God is gracious, and loves us, desires relationship above all else, with us...with you.  He patiently listens. He’s also happy to bless you for he’s a good good Father.

In this passage God asks Moses, “instead of telling me what ya don’t got (an upstate New York/Sylvester Stallone God accent), tell me about what you DO have.”

Now before you create your own, “have list”, let’s exam how Moses answered.

“Uhhh God...,I haaaavvee a ssssstick.” Let’s not forget that he also stuttered!

A STICK!!!!

Ok. Now you can start writing your list ....I think you possess more than a Stick!

Ask yourself....

Do I have skills and talents unique to me?

Did I have a hot bath or shower in the last 24 hours?

Do I have flour, eggs, oil, salt, sugar in my pantry? Pots and pans?

Do I have hope for a future now that I have more clarity?

Did I sleep in a warm bed last night with blankets and a pillow?

Do I have love and support from a community of believers?

Do I have a coach that diligently and practically believes I can succeed?

Wow!!!!

Look at what is in your hand!!!!

Decide today that you will recite over and over what you DO HAVE and give THANKS for it all. Ask God to multiply what you do have; whether it’s a gift of encouragement, finances, hope, cooking abilities, acts of services...

Prayer:

“Papa, today we choose to acknowledge your good good gifts and the many ways you bless us. Help us to choose to have eyes to see what is right in front of us and we ask you to MULTIPLY what we have or can do to serve others today.  Amen”

May everything you put your hand to, prosper,
